Book Three in the Brethren of the Coast Series.
Woo a young lady with a fishing rod and a bucket of worms? Oh-so dashing--but untitled--Everett Markham seeks a bride, and he has charged the field of Miss Sabrina Douglas, a woman who prefers trout to truffles. But, sometimes, even when both hearts are engaged, happily ever after isn't so smooth a journey.
Unabashed and unapologetic, Sabrina sets her cap for a second son, one who will smile patiently when he comes home to find she's misplaced their children. But marriage changes her in ways she could never have imagined, as the awkward debutante surrenders to a very real, very womanly, all-consuming love.
An irresistibly handsome English rogue, Everett plots his future with ruthless detail, but his future wife is anything but predictable, resulting in the zaniest courtship London society has ever seen. When a family tragedy upends his life, on his wedding day, no less, he must chart a slippery course with his most unlikely lady--as the new Earl and Countess of Woverton.

I enjoyed Sabrina's character in the first 2 books of this series, so naturally, I was very excited to read this one. I have a love for the feisty heroines who don't stick to societies dictates, so you know I adored Sabrina. I also enjoy those boyish bad boy gentlemen who are as good as gold in their hearts, if only they can get their brain wrapped around the idea, so again, I loved Everett. At the start of the book, I couldn't have enjoyed it more. The characters were funny and I loved seeing them come together. I just knew this would end up being my favorite book in the series. (Spoiler alert) That was how I felt until Everett inherited a title. After that, I really got annoyed with these characters to the point it nearly ruined the story for me. The way he treated her and some of the things he said were enough to anger me and while I know it's not uncommon for the hero to stick to his pig headed male ways sometimes, he really took it too far with his lack of sense when it came to consumating their vows. Even an idiot should be able to realize that he should have made time to speak his feelings to her and not just ignore that aspect of marriage for a month. That was ridiculous and cruel, but then it gets worse because he watches his mother abuse her and he doesn't defend her, except to say he won't divorce her. He doesn't let her know he's proud of her. And even worse, she tolerates all of this for entirely too long in silence. The Sabrina I fell in love with would never have stayed quiet for so long. It was beyond frustrating. Then she finally stands up to the woman, in defense of him, no less, when he never defended her, and I was thrilled she finally spoke her mind. I'd hoped it would wake these people up, but instead he jumps all over her and sends her to her room? I was furious! I didn't think I could hate it more until not a moment after she's sent to her room, she desires him??? What??? She actually wants to go to hum and waits for him on a chaise like it's ok? I wouldn't have spoken to the man until her apologized and I can't believe someone who had been as wilful and independent as Sabrina would have taken that treatment and then been willing to admit him to go her bed. No way. There are too many cases where he is rude and she allows it to be swept under the rug with a kiss or sex. Especially after the robbery and how he told her she didn't own her body. Too many times I would have left the man and she allows him to get away with it because she seems to loose her brain when he comes on to her. No proud independent woman would ever allow it. It was just too much for me.In the end, he finally grows a brain but only after she's already left him and I'm glad she did, although again, how she pretended to be polite to him after she'd found the papers, I do not know. I was eventually happy with the ending, which placated me somewhat. I'd have probably given this only 3 stars, but I considered the fact that I do like this author, I am enjoying the series, and I very much enjoyed the beginning of the book and decided to give it 4. I'd have happily given it 5 if the majority of it were not filled with a strong women being run over by a man and then forgiving him every time he showed her an ounce of physical love. That pretty much made me ill. Still, I've enjoyed enough that I'll be moving on to the next book and hoping for a more enjoyable story from beginning to end. I hate to leave a bad review of any kind, but so many parts of this one just got under my skin. :-(

The Most Unlikely Lady Brethren of the Coast Book 3 edition by Barbara Devlin Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Another great read, i loved Sabrina's character and Everett's courtship did not start well at all. I had some good laughs and felt the love between family and friends. Sabrina is unlike the ladies Everett knows she is very straight forward and stands on toes and can swear but she is a unique character for her time and i really enjoyed learning about her
There's just too much of the (unspoken) lack of confidence on both their parts. It made me yell in my head "come ON and tell each other that you are scared of rejection" more than once. Other than that, I really like Sabrina. She's a non-conformist and resists the strictures of her time. The ties that bind all the characters in this series are strong and I like that in a series. Now, on to read the rest!
B. Devlin follows a certain formula or pattern so that makes the books basic outline and ending predictable , however it's the details in between that makes her books great reads. The love scenes are detailed in their passion but not garish and pornagraphic. I like the emotional side of her characters as well as the wit that makes the characters seem well rounded and you get a better picture of them with each subsequent book.
The sparks have been flying between Brie and Everett from the moment they first laid eyes on each other. So it is little wonder that I have been looking forward to them finally getting their own story.
Brie is as far from a proper lady as you can imagine. She is quirky, energetic, speaks her mind and curses like a sailor. She would rather be out riding and fishing than sitting down to tea and needlework. She is basically what we in modern day would refer to as one of the guys. All these are qualities that make her fascinating to Everett. Well, all except for the fishing... You'll understand when you read it. However, the day when he first sees her as more than a friend who he enjoys needling and teasing is the day everything changes for both of them.
I debated posting my original review from months ago, which miraculously disappeared due to a glitch, or writing a new one. I almost went with the original review and I would have if I hadn't just reread the book and noticed new facets to the characters that I had not noticed previously. To say this book gets better the second time you read it would be an understatement. I laughed at Brie's antics and the things that would come out of her mouth. However, I found myself reaching for tissue and crying as well.
If you are looking for a lighthearted read, I don't see how you would not enjoy Brie. She is that best friend we all have, you know the one, the one that had your parents rolling their eyes. The one that got you in trouble at least once a week, but just as quickly managed to get you out of trouble as well. The free spirited one we all wished at some point we could be like. However, I did mention crying. Everett's story is a heartbreaking one. They say the saddest people laugh the hardest and in this case they were right. After the last book I promised I wasn't going to cry anymore. But she did it again! Barbara Devlin had me reaching for that box of tissues. So although you will laugh and chuckle at the oddest of times, you will also catch a case of the feels and cry. If there is one thing Devlin does and she does well, it's make you connect and feel for the characters.
